Although Newport is a small picturesque town it is blessed with several good places to eat with a variety of food on offer to suit most tastes and budgets. Most are pretty popular at peak times and it is normally advisable to book.
Pubs:
The Golden Lion -is on the north side of the main road as you enter the town from the east on the A487 it does good food for a variety of tastes and budgets the restaurant area is in the rear of the bar.
The Castle– further along the main road just past Long Street again on the South side the Castle offers a varied menu.
The Royal Oak – again on the same side of the main road slightly further along before the turning to Parrog. A favourite of curry lovers offers good pub food served in the bar or upstairs.
Cafes:
Lou Lous – in Market Street is a quaint eatery that also offers gluten free food and take away options. Their homemade menu never disappoints and the service is great cosy in the winter with an outside table or two in warmer weather.
Fromlas – is two doors up and is dog freindly and has a small al fresco area in front of the cafe.
Morawelon – is on the Parrog and does breakfast and lunch and also has an outside eating area at the rear.
Restaurants:
Llys Medig – is next door to the Golden Lion and offers an exclusive menu and wine list and has a cellar bar which has a great ambience. They often hold themed events and have special evenings including live music.
Cnapan – is one of the family favourites serving great meals in traditional surroundings.It is family run and well frequented so booking is advisable. It also offers bed and breakfast if you wished to extend your stay by a night or two either side of your cottage stay.
